Lady Gaga - Born This Way

Just put your paws up!

McLovin (DISCLAIMER: These are definitely the views of me, and not Mr. Scott, who's not feeling the lady's latest offering!).

I'm going to keep this fairly brief, as I find it pretty tricky to write coherently about a song I haven't had long to sit with. But how could we avoid talking about possibly the pop event of year?! The hype was always going outweigh the result, but when the dust has settled, people will look back and realise that Gaga has survived crushing expectations to do what she does best: writing phenomenal pop anthems.

Born This Way is brilliant in its straightforwardness - as enjoyable, energising and as uplifting a comeback single we could have hoped for. I love the way she alternates between her lower and higher singing range in the verses before reaching the thumping chorus. And what a chorus! This is definitely the most euphoric thing Gaga has ever released and (as my hardcore Gaga friend attests) it is effortlessly fun. This isn't a criticism against the single; so many songs strive towards sounding 'fun', but become so forced and heavy in trying to achieve it. And if we have to mention the 'M' word, then fine - I like this a hell of a lot more than Express Yourself.

When the song ends repeating the line 'same DNA, born this way', I'm positively licking my lips in anticipation for the rest of her album. Born This Way proves not only that Gaga can handle the pressure of being the biggest star on the planet, she's not going to be burdened by her past successes. Go Gaga Go!
