Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

The second single from the album of the same name.

Spyke:

When I first heard that a new singer called Katy Perry had just claimed the 1,000th number one in the US i felt it was a little unjust, not that I agree with the UK's way of re-releasing Elvis tracks for months on end just so he got the title. However with Dr Luke and Max Martin behind her she followed up with the incredible Hot N Cold from her debut album. Since then she's had a string of hits with other artists such as Timbaland and 3oh!3, and established herself as an artist who's going to be around for a while. She's managed to maintain a constant stream of good media attention with her very high profile relationship with Russell Brand, plus with her string team of song writers behind her her new album looks set to deliver another set of great hits.

The song itself goes very hand in hand with California Gurls, it doesn't have the immediate effect of some of her earlier hits but just keeps getting better with every listen. Though currently I am quite enjoying the track when it comes on my itunes playlist, I never feel a strong enough urge to deliberately play it. It's another summery track which is set for big things: it'll struggle not be #1 in the US on the week of the album launch (with all the promo she has planned there) and with it's predecessor already the 10th biggest seller of the year here in the UK it could well be Katy's 3rd #1 here...

Justin Michael & Kemal feat. Bruno Mars - Her World Goes On

With David Guetta behind this; it should finally be a hit:

Spyke

I discovered this track at the end of last year as I downloaded it quite randomly off one of my favourite new music webites - dailytunez.com. Over the past year with Bruno Mars initally appearing on the transatlantic #1 Nothin' On You and then Travie McCoy's Billionaire the guy is now following up with his solo effort; Just The Way You Are which is a nice ballad which has just reached the top 20 in the US. This uptempo track has all the potential to be a mainstream hit around the world, I reckon top 5 here; or it could just end up being another lost gem like Eva Simon's Silly Boy (worth a watch on youtube for any Lady Gaga fans).

There is actually an official video for this track, which really doesn't do the song justice so I decided against posting it as it's not worth watching. As far as I know Justin Michael and Kemal are pretty unknown producers and this could just be their demo version but only time will tell. Now for some reason David Guetta's name has been attached to the track; whether this is just so the track gets 'accidentally' found on youtube or he has some involvement I cannot tell you. However it is the latter then we might be seeing more from this in the future as he seems to be 2010's answer to Timbaland and seems to have no problem topping the charts: I Gotta Feeling, When Love Takes Over, Sexy Bitch, Gettin Over You, and now Club Can't Handle Me. I'm sure there's more to come; with rumour has it he is producing Rihanna's next lead single 'Adrenaline Rush' I can't wait.

Ne-Yo - Hurt Me

This deserves a release...

Spyke

Following on from 'Closer' and 'Beautiful Monster' which is getting released later this year I have just found this absolute tune from Ne-Yo. I imagine this should be a strong contender to make it on to Ne-Yo's new album Libra Scale but currently the track has just been leaked online. Once again Ne-Yo teams up with the incredible Norwegian producers Stargate who are behind some of the world's biggest hits over the past few years: Closer, Irreplaceable, Don't Stop The Music, Beautiful Liar and the more recent Rude Boy.

Taio Cruz - Dynamite

The US follow up to 'Break your Heart'

Spyke
What a phenomenal year this guy has had! It was this time last year that we were just waiting for Break Your Heart to make it's way to the top of the Uk charts for 3 weeks, after a disappointing follow up with No Other One we saw Dirty Picture with Ke$ha chart quite well; as for the US Taio has sold over 2 million copies of Break Your Heart and now is currently sitting at #2 on itunes with this follow up. The track is quite uptempo and has the same energy as several of his other offerings. It's quite reminiscent of his debut Come On Girl and is quite the track to strut down the street to. It's out at the end of August in the Uk and it could well be another #1 single for him.

Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me

Bring on the Summer Smash....

Spyke
David Guetta strikes again by producing this tune which is to be the lead single from Flo Rida's new album 'The Only One'. After 'Low' was used so effectively in 'Step Up 2 (The Streets)' this track also features on the soundtrack to 'Step Up 3-D' which has just been released to cinemas. I find this track has such a light-hearted summery feel and has featured quite heavily on my morning jogging playlist along with Guetta's recent #1 'Gettin Over You'. Despite being a better song than 'Right Round' in my opinion, I can't see it taking off in the same way and getting those initial impressive sales it did both in the US and UK. I do keep doing a double take whenever I hear the intro to this track as it is quite similar to The White Tie Affair's - 'Candle (Sick and Tired)'.

Ne-Yo - Beautiful Monster

So Ne-Yo comes back with an absolute tune for the lauch of his 4th album - Libra Scale.

Spyke
This track could be a very strong contender to be Ne-Yo's third UK #1. Penned by the man himself and being another Stargate production this has all the potential to be a big hit. I couldn't get enough of Closer when he released that back in 2008 and this track has a very similar feel, the uptempo sound with the uniquely choreographed video (slick but quite drunk looking) is bound to take off in the UK. The track has been out in the US since the beginning of June yet is struggling to make it's way up itunes, but hopefully with strong enough airplay it should become another top ten hit for him across the pond.
